Description
Summary:Immobilized cell reactor (ICR) was developed as a novel bioreactor to convert hydrolyzed sugars to organic acids. Microbial cells were immobilised by cross-linkage of the cell wall in a tubular bioreactor. Kinetic model was obtained using Propionibacterium acid-propionici on solid support. ICR efficiency was measured by consumption of glucose and xylose for production of propionic and acetic acids at several hydraulic retention time (5, 8, 12, 20 and 28 h). First order kinetic model was applied for the present research. The obtained rate constants were 0.79, 0.69, 0.68, 0.68 and 0.51 h-1 at 214, 135, 90, 55 and 38 ml.h-1 flow rates, respectively.
