description | Based mainly on writings (poems, literary essays, art writings) by Dan Botta, Lucian Blaga, Roger Vitrac, Alain Jouffroy and Raymond Queneau, this paper examines the specificity of the relations between Brancusi’s work and poetry. These poets focused particularly on two aspects: first of all, on the “the effect of life” that Brancusi’s sculptures produce on certain viewers, jointly to the silent means of communication that are proper to the visual arts, and, second, on the ritual dimension of the process of creation and reception. The efficiency of art work, its autonomy as well as its capacity to open the way to the o(O)ther are investigated. Brancusi’s writings (considerations on art and poems) come to provide some insight into this dialogue between poetry and sculpture, one of the most intense in the history of 20th century art. |
