description This paper analyzes Discourses within headlines about Gender-based violence retrieved from the online versions of “Folha de Boa Vista” (Roraima/Brazil) and “The Sun” (United Kingdom) newspapers. Considering that sexism and misogyny as well as damaging descriptions towards the victims are constantly, and in most of the cases, implicitly conveyed in headlines, this research is based on Fairclough’s and Wodak’s views of Critical Discourse Analysis that provide theoretical tools to identify such hidden and harming messages and on Gender researcher’s perspectives, which are essential to identify harming discourses, hence violence towards women. Through the analyses, it was possible to see similarities and differences in the strategies adopted by each newspaper regarding to the choice of words, the use of passive voice, the authorship of the news and the choice of representing social actors, time and spaces.
