Summary:Accurate recognition of the geographical advantages of  regions is a key factor and a prerequisite for achieving sustainable rural development, because it provides the necessary background for balanced and adjusted development in rural areas. In this regard, this paper aims to analyze the effects of geographical advantages in predicting the sustainable development in rural areas of Khorramabad. The quantitative research method is based on the logic of analogy. The statistical population of the study consisted of 150 villages of Khorramabad county selected by stratified sampling. Data were collected using library resources (in the form of secondary data) and a researcher-made questionnaire. Correlation tests, stepwise analysis, and neural network were used for data analysis. this study concluded that out of the variables defining geographic advantage active population, public investment, private investment, skilled and expert population, Farmland, amount of water supply, access to urban area and the number of incoming touristsare respectively the most effective variables in predicting sustainable rural development in Khorramabad county. Of course, the sustainable development of rural settlements, although it can be affected by various variables (geographical advantages), but some of them have been more effective due to the specific developmental orientations that are being implemented at the regional level. According to the findings of the present study and the importance of geographical advantages in development and especially sustainable rural development, it is recommended to identify the specific advantages of different rural areas by conducting detailed and planned studies. In this way, policy-making in the country's regions is based on the right location decisions, and the development of development programs is in line with the geographical capabilities and advantages of each region.
