Summary: | The main subject of the present study is the commercial fortune of the paintings by Ludovico Mazzolino with particular attention towards the period embracing 19th and 20th centuries. During this
period the quotation of the artist’s works, the concrete and objectively measurable index of the public’s taste towards his paintings, follows rapid decline in the 19th century followed by the stabilization in the 20th century in the area of what can be called that of the lesser old masters. This circumstance of thislack of interestis common with the fortune of many other Italian artists previously widely considered as great and now seen as minor, if not insignificant artistic personalities. Consequently, the knowledge of this masters abandons the waste dominion of general consciousness in favour of the extremely limited that of the strictly specialized literature.
