Simulation and optimization of acid gas enrichment column in an industrial sulfur recovery unit

An industrial enrichment column was simulated and calibrated. The results showed that the efficiency of H2S and CO2 in the Acid Gas Enrichment (AGE) absorber should be set to 4.1 and 21.4%, respectively. Afterward, the sensitivity analysis of the AGE absorber showed that the temperature of lean amin...

Description
Summary:An industrial enrichment column was simulated and calibrated. The results showed that the efficiency of H2S and CO2 in the Acid Gas Enrichment (AGE) absorber should be set to 4.1 and 21.4%, respectively. Afterward, the sensitivity analysis of the AGE absorber showed that the temperature of lean amine routing to the AGE column was the most significant parameter for achieving an acceptable H2S enrichment ratio. Moreover, the AGE section was optimized by reducing the packing height and increasing the amine circulation rate. Finally, an innovative method was applied in the AGE absorber, in which a portion of liquid was withdrawn from the middle of the AGE column to decrease the flooding percent at the bottom of the absorber and increase its capacity.
