| description | Schwannomas are benign tumors arising from the neural sheath that may occur almost in every part of the body, especially in the head and neck region. They may originate from peripheral motor, sensory, sympathetic and cranial nerves. Schwannomas originating from the servical sympathetic chain are quite rare. A case of servical sympathetic chain schwannoma is presented in this paper. Twenty-two years old woman admitted to our clinic with a painless mass at her neck. The mass was excised and myosis, ptosis, enophtalmus developed postoperatively at the same site. Histopathologic examination was reported as schwannoma. The patient has no recurrence 6 months after the operation, and the ptosis has partially recovered. The histopathology, etiology, and therapies of this rare pathology of the head and neck were also discussed. |
