description A normalized concept like “co-design” might exclude collective practices that deviate from conventional models of producing public spaces. Analyzing spaces spontaneously created during the social outburst in Santiago, Chile, the authors propose the concept of “insurgent codesign” to highlight the relevance of collective practices of memorialization and public space creation, whose form and maintenance rely on multiple hands and anonymous contributors, challenging the primacy of authorship in design.
