Description
Summary:In the process of comprehension and interpretation of a literary text the reader relies on his/her general fund of knowledge. In modern research works covering the problems of text linguistics, this theoretical position becomes the object of much controversy. Most approaches to the analysis of this issue consider the solution of this problem as the implied author and the implied reader, the relevant historical context of production and perception of the narration; with approaches that are developed based on the theory of possible worlds, researchers have focused on a milti-leveled relationship between the real and virtual worlds as part of a literary text; cognitive theories focus on the mental models and schemes of the images that are directly based on the readers’ perceptions of everyday language functioning, conceptual systems, objectified in the minds of text addressee. Within this research it has been examined in detail the judgment made within cognitive theories, according to which the reader’s knowledge of everyday reality is a central mechanism for realizing images of characters in a literary text. In this context, it has been discussed the problem of representation and comprehension of images of the characters in a feature story in the aspect of psychological mechanisms of influence on the author’s imaginary worlds on the reader’s mind, developed in text linguistics the processing model of the reader. We focus research attention on the four aspects of the reader’s awareness of the image of the character in a feature story in the light of such pragmatic factors such as the narration situation, the narrative genre and intertextual characteristics. These factors, as we argue, are a kind of conventions, that rely on the author and the reader in the course of establishing interpersonal contact at the level of generation and perception of literary narration.
