Description
Summary:The launch of a significantly well-provided open access fund at the Charité was achieved through a division of tasks between the Quest Center at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) and the Charité Medical Library. The BIH did initial conceptual preparatory work and successfully applied for funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG). The library took on the challenges of hiring an operational team at a very short notice and building scalable workflows for both advising a substantial number of authors at a large medical school and funding a correspondingly large number of open access publications. The publicon fund was an immediate success in its first year. This article details local conditions and the Charité Medical Library’s services which lie behind this success.
