Description
Summary:This paper presents novelties in the identification and description of soil according to European standard EN ISO 14688-1:2018, as well as changes in the principles of soil classification according to European standard EN ISO 14688-2:2018. A new version of the European Soil Classification System (ESCS) for engineering purposes is developed. A detailed comparison with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) is performed according to soil group symbols, soil group names, and soil classification procedures. A new version of the KLASIF computer software is also developed. The program provides IT support for implementing both USCS and ESCS classifications, and facilitates their parallel use.
