Description
Summary:The term Potemkiniadada (from Russian – потёмкинские деревни),appeared in the 18th century, it refers to a method of falsifying reality through beautifying, which comes from the name of Grigori Potemkin, Russian General, state dignitary and favorite of Catherine II of Russia. In the history of Bessarabian cinema we frequently encounter such a „phenomenon“, as in the socialist period, when all the films made at the ” Moldova Film” had to correspond to a single ideology: the so-called „lakirovka“ - the actual reality was hidden or modified on the screen. All that was shown and found to be real in the films of this period were images adorned with beautiful and hardworking people, clean villages, rich fields with many workers etc. In the film „Between Lying and Truth“ ( master’s film of the student Ion Usatâi) we talk in detail about this period.
