Description
Summary:In Celjske Slovenske novine, which was the most decisively liberal Slovene newspaper during the Springtime of Nations (1848–1849), the implementation of full equality of the Jews was discussed, in addition to numerous other current issues of that time. Constitutional and legal regulations on civil rights and duties caused discomfort to many, as they did not discriminate between members of different religions. The stereotypical notions of the Jews were already widespread at that time. However, there were perceptible differences in the attitude towards them. While some saw them only as demagogic instigators of unrest, others pointed out that they had suffered grave injustices and that they had long been victims of unfavourable conditions in the Austrian Empire.
