Closure of the air-bone gap was assessed according to the following classification system: satisfactory, (closure at <10 dB); partially satisfactory, (closure at >10 dB); unsatisfactory (no closure) or poor.Results:The mean air-bone gap was 34,8 dB before surgery. Small fenestra stapedotomy was performed in 19 ears (63%) and partial or total stapedectomy were performed in 11 ears (27%) under general anesthesia. Satisfactory and partially satisfactory closure of air-bone gap were obtained in 26 cases (87% ). Sensorineural hearing loss occurred in one case (3%) in early postoperative period.Conclusion:Surgery for otosclerosis is a safe and effective method for restoring hearing. Complications are rare. |
