Description
Summary:The article presents original solutions, methodology, and procedure for determining the thickness of bituminous overlays for renovation and modernization of the existing airfield pavements.Using the Westergaard method, the algorithm and nomograms were developed in order to determine the edge stress and the loading force. The nomograms are a state of the art solutions that have never been presented in a similar form. After derivation of aforementioned dependencies, the practical way to use the nomograms, depending on the existing bituminous airport pavement, was demonstrated. The plots were developed on the basis of calculations using the derived equations. They will definitely facilitate the procedure of selecting the thickness of the flexible overlay to the airport pavements which require repair or modernization. Keywords: airport rigid pavements, airport vulnerable pavements, strengthening the pavement
