Description
Summary:The history of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management, as a young section of Iranian Oil Industry, goes back to more than a decade. During this period, the HSE management followed 3 categories; which include providing the health of the human resources, the safety of the equipment and tools and the protection of the environment as its three main objectives. By having a look at the upstream and the development of the related academic HSE majors in the universities, we can say that they do not comply with the requirements of the industry. And as an independent, integrated and specific field, it could not give a practical framework for the industry. Lack of the HSE experts, is one of the challenges in this industry, and universities could have a major role in solving it. In the present study, the necessity of the development of HSE majors in the universities, as a specific subject for upstream, has been emphasized. The establishment of the independent HSE majors and introducing an obligatory course named: “The Familiarity with Basic Health, Safety & Environment” is recommended in this article to help developing this field of study in related majors in the upstream field.
