description The installation of the Cortes de Aragón in Aljafería Palace culminated a long historic process that made this monumental complex, a mixture of art styles and cultures, into a symbol of Aragón’s identity. The first stage of restoration works that began in 1985 was followed by another more recent intervention, which has been awarded the 2001 Europa Nostra Diploma for restoration. The architects Luis Franco and Mariano Pemán sum up the process below, which they based on a pondered reflection about Íñiguez’s earlier intervention in an attempt to find an answer to the many doubts that came up regarding the refurbishment of the palace.
