Shrnutí:This article analyses how women has been appeared in Brazil as a new political force in the peasant and family farmer movements. Through organized groups, campaigns, commercial and productive experiences, they have mobilized themselves around a social network, the National Articulation of Agro-ecology, in order to make visible women's point of view in this area. The aim of the study is to demonstrate how – through their social practices and in dispute with other political groups, reflected in theirs life histories – these women have obtained legitimacy for their demands related to the environmental management and sustainable development and, as a result, have constituted themselves as new political agents. How do they built these discourses and practices, what were their characteristics, and how do they impact through their action the strategic struggles of family farmers movements on sustainable development, has been also issues of the article.
