Description
Summary:The Caribbean island of Dominica is an emerging tourist destination. This small state, independent since 1978, located between the French territories of Guadeloupe and Martinique, intends to develop an original tourist strategy to break into a prosperous but highly competitive regional market. The country is relatively isolated and is among the poorest in the region. Dominica has not succeeded in attracting international investment, and its population has remained relatively stable since independence (about 80 000 people residing in an area of 750 km ² as of 2005) as a result of constant migration. It is in this context that the state of Dominica has constructed a tourism strategy based on the unique value of its natural and human resources in the context of spatial planning, which aims to fight against poverty.
