description The study which this paper is based upon, is a continuation of the research we have been conducting for several years in virtual campuses, a study focusing on the educational communication through the analysis of traces left by the learners in the chats. Adopting as a starting point the qualitative approach based on the analysis of the content of messages, we shall try to understand how ODL chats could evolve from a form of mutual informational and educational assistance toward a form of training regulation. This transfer or evolution of status would lead to the model that emerges in distance communication between the learners.
