Description
Summary:The ornamentation of melodies for violin in traditional Romanian culture has tangencies mostly with the ornamentation recorded in written music. Thus, we have to deal with classical ornaments such as: appoggiaturas, simple, double, triple, multiple, superior and inferior, the trill, the upper and lower mordent, gruppetto, glissando, etc. These are, however, enriched in the fiddlers` violin technique by various other methods, such as: sliding appoggiaturas, sliding trill, sliding mordent, in fact combinations of the procedures already known but applied in a particular manner, as well as other ornamental techniques. The folk violin technique, the peculiarities of the interpreting procedures and the transformations that the violin undergoes in the hands of the oral tradition instrumentalists stem from the need for a fuller interpretation of the popular melody, without diminishing its content richness and specific character.
