Description
Summary:In this article, we have performed a comprehensive investigation in the specialty of ultra-high frequency (UHF) printable antennas for partial discharge (PD) diagnostics. Due to the complex characteristics of PD signals in UHF range, selection of printable antenna becomes a major concern for PD diagnostics. The main contribution of this article is that we have provided a complete roadmap of selecting UHF printable antennas through relating antenna parameters with their practical significance on PD diagnostics in high-voltage equipment. We have highlighted 7 intrinsic parameters of UHF antennas and indicated their relationship with 7 extrinsic parameters of PD diagnostics performance. Following the extracted relationship, we have investigated on 8 different designing methods of UHF antennas. Based on the available results of recently reported works and their critical analyses, we have pointed out the existing challenges and indicated the future direction of UHF printable antennas for contactless partial discharge diagnostic systems.
