The Cumacea here reported were one of the benthic infaunal groups collected at 161 stations by the Beaudette Foundation and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, in April 1962 and October 1963, in Bahía de los Angeles, Baja California (Mexico). Eleven species were identified, of which Oxyuostylis pacifica Zimmer and Oxyuostylis tertia Zimmer were the most abundant and widely distributed in the bay. Based on a Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test, O. pacifica and O. tertia showed preferente for fine and sandy sediments, respectively. The abundance in October 1963 was only 11% compared to the total abundance observed in April 1962. Although the precise causes involved in such a drastic faunal reduction are not known, it has been suggested that they could be related to pronounced seasonal temperature changes, whose effects on the benthic fauna of this geographical region are better known today.
