| description | This study sought to examine the pro-environmental behaviour of attendees at a major sport tourism event in Cameroon. Through a mixed-methods research technique involving face-to-face surveys with n=759, the key findings of the study were that the event attendees displayed inconsistent behaviour while at home, versus while being at the event. The study found that the attendees were more pro-environmentally friendly during the event than they were when they were at home. This was mainly triggered by the emphasis on environmental initiatives and messages conveyed during the event. The study concludes that, since the event attendees are likely to be more pro-environmentally friendly during the event, such events are critical as avenues to creating a lasting impression on the attendees that could address their behaviour during the event, and encourage them to continue thereafter. In this sense, the learning provided through initiatives and branded messages during the event is very important. |
