| description | This article presents the work being done by the Thematic Group of Gender Experts, whose members come from five United Nations Agencies based in Chile, who give their joint support to the National Foundation for Women in Chile (SERNAM), with the aim of countering gender violence in Chile. This work is centred on three main areas: violence prevention, treatment of victims, and dissemination of information about femicide in Chile. To this end, these Agencies collaborated between 2002 and 2004 with the Chilean Network Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse, and with other institutions such as the Ministry of Education for violence prevention; with the Ministry of Health for the treatment of victims; and with the Chilean NGO «La Morada» for a study on femicide in Chile, with the aim of drawing the attention of Chilean society towards violence against women in this country. |
