| description | On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the genocide of Rwanda (6 April 1994), the work that Barbara Lamedica presented as her final thesis at the Postgraduate Course in “Psychology of emergency in situations of natural and human disasters, at national and international level” held at the University of Padua (academic year 2002-2003) is published here with the author’s permission. The theoretical framework chosen by the author is the psychological dimension of the elaboration of mourning, which is described through its phases. It is also proposed as a crisis that opens up new opportunities, in which the emergency psychologist
can perform significant functions both with individuals and the community. Specifically, the psychological work carried out on the 700 unaccompanied minors who were received in facilities in the village of Nyamata, the epicentre of one of the most brutal massacres, is analysed and commented on. |
