Summary:This article aims at presenting a reflection on the self-leadership and its relationship with the complexity within the public sector. Literature review and content analysis techniques were based on the qualitative approach. In this research the different philosophical perspectives of leadership are presented to reinforce self-leadership as a management tool. The principles of complex and public management are discussed in order to relate the advantages offered by self-leadership management in organizations. As a conclusion, the public manager should bring about changes in organizational design through self-reflection; self-discovery and recognition of personal vision and self-training that allow management of business reality in an uncertain and changing context, subject to constant changes
