Summary: | This study looks at the multi-criteria hierarchy of Romanian regions from the standpoint of the digital economy
using particular information and communication technology statistics released by EUROSTAT. The multi-criteria
hierarchy of regions' practical application comes from the fact that it enables experts, national and local public
authorities, to understand the actual situation and the place of each region in the ranking. In relation to these
positions, the existing interregional disappearances are highlighted and necessary measures can be taken to
reduce them at the expense of special and regional programs. What is specific to this paper is the application of
methods other than those commonly used in regional analysis. It is about the methods of competitive analysis of
companies, namely: the synthetic indicator procedure, the comparison matrix procedure, the distance procedure
and the final ranking procedure. These procedures have been adapted to the regional analysis. The target time
period was 2008-2020. The results of the analysis revealed once again the existence of the two regional poles of
Romania from the perspective of the digital economy. It is about the Bucharest-Ilfov region positioned at the top
of the ranking and the North-East region.
