Summary: | The following paper aims to comprehend the growing and dissemination of the academic capitalism model in Brazil through an assessment of the current governmental policy of research funding to post-secondary education institutions. Emphasis will be given to the goals of faculty hiring and to the institutional preference for specific areas of knowledge, by means of a documental research in consolidated data of research funding and public calls of research project funding, both obtained at the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development. The paper also benefited from bibliographical research. One of its findings was the growing importance given to entrepreneurial aspects when public financing of research in Brazil is concerned.
