Summary:Psychiatric abnormalities represent important, although notobligate, clinical manifestation of epilepsy. They are characterizedby variability, interrelation with particular disease forms andseizure types, as well as by significant influence on patientsquality of life. Precise assessment of these disturbances in eachcase is important for carrying out differential diagnosis, determiningprognosis and prescribing adequate therapy. In thepaper, on the basis of extensive personal experience and literaturedata, classification of various ictal, interictal and postictalpsychiatric abnormalities is proposed, detailed phenomenologyof mind disorders in epilepsy is presented, and relevant risk factorsare analyzed.
