Description
Summary:Gagarin on Abraham’s Trail. The Question concerning Technology in Emmanuel Lévinas’s Work Lévinas takes Jurij Gagarin’s space enterprise as a starting point to analyze the issue of technique and its consequences for the human. The importance of technical development, that is what it has in common with Judaism, resides in its ability to release man from the violence of enrootedness in the soil. In definite contrast to the anti-modernist heideggerian position, Lévinas thinks of the technique as a disembodiment from the paganism, hiding in exaltation of the rural landscape. Thanks to its demystifying essence, technology becomes a way of thinking about the ethics, outside the traditional ontological paradigm.
