Summary: | The purpose of this article is to reconsider the political career of two legates of Caesar, T. Labienus and C. Caninius Rebilus, through the prosopographic method. T. Labienus was raised to posterity for his actions during the Gallic Wars and because he is the only legate of Caesar to have refused to cross the Rubicon in 49 BC. To understand the reasons that led him to change sides, it is necessary to shed some light on his entire political career. As for C. Caninius Rebilus, a man known mainly for having exercised the consulate for a single day in 45 BC, it is possible to reconsider his career during the triumviral period by identifying him with a certain Rebilus, who is mentioned by Appian. |
