Summary:In this paper a dynamic model of the axial-field, permanent-magnet machine will be discussed. The model may be used to study the transient response with the machine operating as a motor or as a generator. Experimental results are compared with Matlab/Simulink and Pspice predictions for a number of conditions, including the complete starting transient. Excellent correlation is obtained which validated both modeling approaches.
