| Summary: | Influence of Staking on Tuber Yield of Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) D.C. at Bunia - Zaire. The varieties KADE 1/26, WB 15-12 and UPS 122 of Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) D.C. were planted at Bunia (Zaire) to assess the effect of staking on tuber yield. Results showed that staking increased tuber production of varieties UPS 122 and WB 15-12 with the latest responding very favorably to staking (1, 2 and 6 t/ha respectively for non staked and staked plants against 0, 5 and 3 t/ha for UPS 122). The variety W 15-12 staked in addition gave the highest per-centage of plants bearing tubers (97 %) compared to the varieties KADE 1/26 (83 %) and UPS 122 (90 %). The use of improved variety combined with staking are necessary for the success of Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) D.C. cultivation at Bunia. |
