Expression of Pgp in cells of neurovascular unit in perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury

We have studied peculiarities of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) expressionon neuronal, astroglial and endothelial cells in newborn rats (P10)underwent perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage. Expressionof Pgp was markedly elevated in all the cells tested reaching thehighest levels in astrocytes (4 hrs after i...

Description
Summary:We have studied peculiarities of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) expressionon neuronal, astroglial and endothelial cells in newborn rats (P10)underwent perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage. Expressionof Pgp was markedly elevated in all the cells tested reaching thehighest levels in astrocytes (4 hrs after injury) followed by increasedlevels in neuronal and endothelial cells (12 hrs after injury). Thepossible role of Pgp in pathogenesis of perinatal brain injury is discussed.
