| Summary: | The paper is an analysis of the speaker’s gestual, facial and postural manifestations in political campaign discourse. It aims to show that the speaker’s non-linguistic level constitutes a complex territory for semiotic investigation. The decoding of these marks is meant to build a different identity for the candidates, this being the result of a recognising code of corporal recurrent behaviour. Gestures are constitutive elements of a single system which is directly connected to a semiotic level / dimension, proving that discourse means a lot more than words and sentences. |
