Una vez derrotado el liberalismo exaltado, el criollo se dividió entre sus sectores más conservadores, movilizados por la sacarocracia, y las capas medias. La invasión de los Cien Mil Hijos de San Luis y el fin del régimen constitucional en la Península se convierte en el mayor incitador a la disidencia por parte de estas últimas, que se puede apreciar en las elecciones municipales. Por el contrario las clases dirigentes criollas se valen de la designación por ellas de un nuevo capitán general Vives para organizar la transición hacia el absolutismo y estrangular los brotes independentistas.
This work tries to approach the political situation of Cuba in the last years of the Liberal Triennium through the study of the existing links between the most radical sector of creole liberalism, the so-called muchachos , and the secret independence society called Soles y Rayos de Bolívar. Once defeated the exalted liberalism, the Creole was divided between its most conservative sectors, mobilized by the sacrocracy, and the middle layers. The invasion of the One Hundred Thousand Sons of San Luis and the end of the constitutional regime in the Peninsula becomes the greatest incitement to dissent on the part of the latter, which can be seen in the municipal elections. On the contrary, the Creole ruling classes use the designation by them of a new Captain General Vives to organize the transition towards absolutism and to strangle the separatist outbursts. |
