Detection of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases in Salmonella Species

In this study, extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) activity was investigated in community acquired 113 Salmonella strains isolated from stool cultures according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards and E-test methods between January 1998-January 2000. The ratio of ESBL po...

description In this study, extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) activity was investigated in community acquired 113 Salmonella strains isolated from stool cultures according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards and E-test methods between January 1998-January 2000. The ratio of ESBL positive strains were found as 4.4% (5/113). All of the ESBL positive Salmonella strains were identified as Salmonella typhimurium. Other Salmonella species did not show ESBL activity.
