Some aspects of integration of modern technologies for drilling deep oil and gas wells (review article)

The article covers the history of deep oil and gas wells drilling with a depth of more than 6000 m in the world and in Ukraine. For today the largest and the deepest well in Ukraine, Shevchenkovo-1, was drilled to the depth of 7,522 m in URSR times. Special attention was paid to both the drilling...

description The article covers the history of deep oil and gas wells drilling with a depth of more than 6000 m in the world and in Ukraine. For today the largest and the deepest well in Ukraine, Shevchenkovo-1, was drilled to the depth of 7,522 m in URSR times. Special attention was paid to both the drilling of wells by the state company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” and by some private oil and gas enterprises like LLC “DTEK Naftogaz”. In some cases, private enterprises are better at the drilling of ultra-deep wells than state drilling enterprises that are part of “Naftogaz of Ukraine”. They achieve greater drilling depths and speeds. LLC “DTEK Naftogaz” achieved this by using PDC bits, their rotation was carried out in a combined way from the upper drive and the downhole motor. In 2017, the most productive well in Europe was drilled and put into operation – well 17 of Semerenkivske field with the depth of 6,750 m. In recent years, drillers of NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” have effectively drilled three extra-deep wells in the Dnipro-Donetsk Basin with the depths of 6,040 m, 6,100 m and 6,000 m respectively. This article outlines the requirements for designing deep wells. According to the authors, drilling projects for production wells should consist of two parts, the first one provides the maximum rate of penetration and the second one provides the high-quality opening of production intervals. It also reviews the domestic experience in the training of oil and gas engineering specialists in Higher Education Institutions in Ukraine. The article covers the minimum knowledge requirements to teach in universities like mastering the latest technologies. The authors’ conclusions could contribute to the improvement of the process of specialists training in oil and gas engineering and drilling in Ukraine and increase the efficiency of drilling oil and gas wells on land at sea.
