description It is an immense pleasure presenting this special issue of Responsibility & Sustainability. Nowadays, at least in theory, employees are considered the greatest asset of any company. For this reason, business competition in the global economy increasingly needs to invest in building employee engagement. The papers in this special issue (some of them selected papers coming from the III Symposium on Ethics and Social Responsibility Research hosted by The School of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Extremadura –Spain– the 28th and 29th of May 2015) are focused on a few major areas such as human resources management in different economic contexts, human values and ethical issues, making a high quality contribution to the area of Ethics and Social Responsibility research. Papers in this number provide valuable ideas for academics and also for practitioners, related to Ethics and Social Responsibility putting people in the center of the new advances in these research areas. Considering the results of the different studies collected in this special number of R&S, it is remarkable the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the productivity and competitiveness of companies and the potential role of Human Resource Management for fostering CSR in the near future.
