description A triangular diagram is proposed to represent the percentage of traction, saltation, and suspension populations identified in sandy sediments as a tool in their genetic interpretation. The variation observed in the population composition of sediments from different sedimentary environments revealed ten populational groups in the triangle, one for each environment. The meaning of size, type of relation and overlapping between groups are analyzed and discussed. The graphic procedure here proposed contributes to the genetic interpretation and the ranking of the physical processes of sedimentation that occur in depositional environments.
