Summary:Considered a recent discussion and controversy, sustainability is one of the topics discussed in con- temporary society. The current proposals pervade science, politics, economics, geography, territorial planning, other sciences and even common sense. Faced with such a condition, in the 2000s, the United Nations led the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, in order to improve the quality of life of the population. The proposed objectives, one of which is MDG 7 - Ensure Envi- ronmental Sustainability. This article discusses the MDG 7 for municipalities Taquari Valley/RS and aims to identify how that is being fulfilled. It is a qualitative and quantitative research, which collected bibliographic and documentary data and process these took from the content analysis. Closed noting that the analysis of MDG 7 focuses, protection of natural resources and biodiversity, access to safe water, sanitation and improving the living conditions of the urban population, the main issue to be discussed and treated by municipalities is sanitation that the MDG 7 is partially met and that meeting the goals is not directly related to the Millennium Development Goals and yes, in the qualification and service of laws, policies and projects that promote the improvement of the population’s quality of life.
