the "withdrawal crisis”. In this perspective the problem of "addiction" seems to assume another
connotation, much less conventional. Then the essay tried to clarify the differences between food
substances (bread) and intoxicants (wine) and the deep anthropological reasons linked to the use
of psychotropic plants. Finally, it seeks to describe the passage from a ritual and religious use of
psychotropic substances to an experimental-artistic (certainly elitist) use of these same between the
romantic nineteenth century and the “psychedelic” twentieth century. |
