description | The provision and uptake of appropriate information is central to agricultural transformation in Nigeria. This study
therefore examined the key issues in the uptake of agricultural knowledge and information in Nigeria by using primary
data obtainedfrom a sample of 77 systematically selected smallfarmers in Ogun State. This was complemented with
available datafrom the Central Bank of Nigeria as input into the Nigerian Small Farmer Adoption Model (NSFAM) to
demonstrate the key roles that agricultural knowledge and information analysis play among farmers, agricultural
planners, extension practitioners, researchers andfunding agencies. The study used the counter-intuitive predictions of
the model to shed some light on critical questions that needs to be asked before scarce resources are committed to
agricultural transformation efforts. It then posited that a key lessonfor the main actors in the agricultural information
management process (planner, researchers and extensioners) is that it is important to strive to ensure the sustainability
ofpositive attitudes andperceptions among their clients in aplanned change situation. |
