| description | AbstractThis research aims to examine the ecological lexicon of the East Java community through a linguistic ecological approach. The focus of this study is to understand the vocabulary and ecological concepts used by the people of East Java in describing wildlife and their natural environment. The research is conducted by identifying and analyzing vocabulary related to flora and fauna, as well as ecological concepts present in the language and culture of East Java. Research methods used include field surveys, interviews, language data collection, and participatory observations. Data is collected through direct interactions with the people of East Java, including farmers, local residents, and community figures who possess knowledge and experience in interacting with wildlife and the natural environment. Data analysis is carried out using a linguistic ecological approach, which involves mapping ecological vocabulary, identifying distinct ecological concepts, and tracing the relationship between ecological vocabulary and local culture. The results of the research indicate that the people of East Java have a rich and unique vocabulary related to wildlife and their natural environment. This vocabulary reflects the diversity of wildlife in the region, as well as the close relationship between the community and the natural environment. Ecological concepts, such as local wisdom in natural resource management, protection of specific wildlife, and understanding the interconnectedness between humans and nature, are also found in the ecological lexicon of the East Java community. These findings have important implications for language and cultural development, as well as environmental conservation in East Java. Preserving local vocabulary can maintain the cultural richness and identity of the East Java community, while the use of ecological lexicon in education and environmental awareness can enhance the understanding and participation of the community in wildlife and habitat conservation. The findings of this research can also serve as a basis for developing more relevant conservation policies based on the understanding of the local community. |
