description This article examines how Title IX legislation’s deployment in American higher education is haunted by contradictions that undermine its purported aim to combat gender and sex inequities, discrimination, and forms of harassment. This article examines the logics at work in a sexual harassment complaint at a Texan public university in order to highlight how such cases can never escape the reactionary political and neoliberal contexts in which Title IX legislation unfolds. Rather than enabling the preservation of equity, the institutional implementation of Title IX requires that those who seek redress subvert both its logics and the power relations it reproduces. The article reflects on the ways such contexts determine the mobilization of collective agency in order to undo structural discrimination and demand accountability from the corporate university.
