description This article deals with the transferance of a pragmatic-discursive strategy from Brazilian Portuguese (BP) to academic writing in English as a second language (EL2): the use of verb-subject word order (VS). Our purpose was to analyze, describe and explain the discursive and grammatical behavior of this clause, taking its structural and informational status into account. The main hypothesis was that this would be a discursive-oriented construction transferred from the L1 with syntactic adjustments related to the L2. This integration would result in an atypical structure in both systems and would serve as a favorable evidence to the concept of interlanguage as well as to the sensitive period hypothesis.
