Description
Summary:The present research was done in order to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on internet game addiction intermediary variables with self-control and sensation seeking, in boy adolescents. This research was done by pretest-posttest kind of semi-experimental with a 45-day follow-up period. Population includes all the male high school students of Tehran, in the year of 2014-2015. 64 boy students that were dependent to internet games (based on modified Young's internet addiction test), were selected with convenience sampling method and then assigned in two groups (experimental and control). then the experimental group were divided to 4 levels based on sensation-seeking and self-control questionnaires. Experimental group received 8 sessions intervention based on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Data were collected by Zuckerman's sensation-seeking questionnaire, Tanji's self-controlling questionnaire, and modified Young's internet addiction test, and data were analyzed by One-Way Co-variance (ancova), and Mix-variance. The results generally showed that MBCT is effective in reducing internet games addiction. In addition, MBCT had not made a significant impact in the group with high self-control and low sensation-seeking's grade, but in the other groups, treatment had a significant effect. Thus it can be concluded that mindfulness based cognitive therapy through mediation variables, self-control and sensation seeking has been effective in reducing internet game addiction.
