Summary: | The sociology of arts and culture has recently begun to focus on the Afro-contemporary plastic creation of the Caribbean basin and, even more recently, on the mechanism of socio-cultural and artistic under-representation and valorisation. Starting from the notion of identity mapping, the aim is to show how the figurative arts, by articulating belonging and a sense of belonging, illustrate the prevalence of cleavages in postcolonial environments. This article is based on the plastic work of the Martinican sculptor Hervé Beuze, to update the stakes of art when it leads to think the tension between determination, empowerment and subjectivation |
