Summary:The development of global education space, the current processes of globalization and internationalization in market conditions introduce their amendments to the process of restructuring the system of Russian education. That is why the article raises such acute problems as optimization of the education process in university, the quality of the faculty work, investigation of qualitative and quantitative parameters of university lecturers, restructuring the education system, the crisis connected with difficult adaptation of the faculty to conditions and requirements of education reforms, as well as issues of professionalization, autonomy and responsibility of the faculty. The authors try to identify the most acute external and internal problems of the education system; causes of the staff crisis and ways of overcoming negative consequences of the current ‘westernization’ of higher school; introduction of digital information environment in all spheres of activity and using the strategy of passing-over to digital university; independent assessment of the results of each faculty member and his/her contribution to the development of the education institution.
